Sonic Unleashed
At the time, the Sega Genesis was the leader of the video game console roost. I never had one but my best friend of the time and neighbor did. He had a basement bonus room filled with Legos, a couple computers, toys and in the back room, a Sega video game console where we got down on titles like After Burner and Sonic the Hedgehog. I can still hear the chiming of those gold rings Sonic would blast through while kicking it into high gear. That same friend also had Sonic on Game Gear. Whenever he was working on a mission on his video game console, I occupied myself on his Game Gear, taking the smaller Sonic through the courses, spinning into the secret rooms and into the lair of Dr. Eggman.
I have a vivid memory of the first level in this game because I could never beat it. It started out easy enough, running down gold coin laden slopes and over bad guys but then by halfway, Sonic had to jump into a mine cart, fly down the tracks and to the first boss level where Eggman was floating around in a futuristic vessel dropping down bombs that always got me. There was no checkpoints in this game so once all the lives were used up it was time to start over again. It was super frustrating.

At that time, Sonic was the top. He had his own cartoon, line of video games and bevy of dedicated followers. As the Sega video game console fell out of style so did Sonic. That was why it was really cool to see Sonic Unleashed for Xbox 360 within the video game selection of Northern Lites at http://www.northernlites.biz/. Featured in the video game console clip below, Sonic Unleashed looks all grown up. I love the third person camera angle instead of the classic sidescroller view. This looks to be a fast paced game, different then anything I grew up with on old video game consoles.
This is what Northern Lites product description had to say about Sonic Unleashed:
In this new adventure, Dr. Eggman is up to his evil antics again, in his quest for World domination. He unleashes a powerful ray that not only divides the world into several continents, but has an unexpected transformation on Sonic's state. Sonic must travel across the globe, completing action-packed stages to retrieve the power of the Chaos Emeralds to ultimately save the world... and himself!
Sonic's world has been transformed, courtesy of a powerful new game engine that delivers the tight gameplay of a 2D sidescroller in stunning, picturesque 3D environments.
